This bowl has a very peculiar combination of black and shiny silver glass combined in a peculiar and whimsical pattern. The black is deep and profound while silver is standoffish and reflecting as a mirror. The inside of this bowl is smooth and shiny which the silver part of the glass mix accentuates nicely. The outside of the bowl is matte and rough to the touch, which in combination with black part of the glass mix . This is a glass. Not porcelain, not ceramics and not an actual shell. Murano Maestro used very old techniques called Lattimo, to create milky, not transparent and mix it with strict and shiny silvery enamel glass rods. This technique gives the bowl amazing shell like look with a matte finish on the outside and smooth shiny finish on the inside.
This technique, dated back almost for 8 centuries, uses similar to enamel chemical composition and was known as majolica. High Gloss and Maestro imagination created a sea shell illusion for this large Murano Glass Vase.
